AlexS – Great characters that suck you in
October 24, 2021

Descriptive pose that make for an intriguing story with well developed characters. Definitely an unusual tale though which aired on the darker side of things at times and yet I still found it to be an enjoyable read.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Ben Z. – Great Read
September 5, 2001

This has a certain aspect of the writings of Steven King, but I’m not sure if I would classify it as horror necessarily. Definitely has elements of a thriller، great read overall.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Kim M. – Solid character development

I highly recommend this book. Well written. Lots of twists and turns. Hope there will be a second book!

D.M. Sorlie – Excellent Read
September 8, 2001

Interesting storyline. The author did a great job writing about an Arizona that’s never talked about but should be. I won’t say too much to give it away, but the mother’s quest was incredible. It glues you to the pages. Be prepared to stay up late reading.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Botkin – Chillingly Good!

This is an unusual storyline, but so captivating! The way the author develops the characters, and the depiction of Arizona for this storyline was superb. Great read. I highly recommend!

September 2, 2001

I like the book, i was hard to lay it aside. The story is well written and the characters are deep and interesting. After i saw the cover, my first thought was, it might be a comic. “Sadly” it was not, cause I like the style of that cover! Nevertheless, great book!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

bookworm3412 – Quite enjoyable!
September 5, 2001

This book was really fun with the solid character development, candid dialogue and vivid descriptions. Some dark and somewhat disturbing elements, which are tasteful. The unique situations combined with topical events and unexpected twists make it a real page-turner. Nice Work!

Rose Anderson – Wild ride of a story with very memorable characters
October 8, 2001

This is a great, interesting, wild ride of a story with very memorable characters, but the writing is not consistently high quality. Sometimes it’s very clear and descriptive, sometimes not so much. It’s almost as if different people wrote different sections. I think a good developmental editor could help polish this into a really top-notch book.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Dan – A book that sticks with you
September 8, 2001

Black Market Bones was an unusual tale. One filled with unique characters and dark scenarios. But ultimately it really stuck with me. The writer did an excellent job of painting unique, detailed characters who jumped off the page.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Diego Gimar – I really enjoyed it!!
October 17, 2001

This is a unique story of revenge, redemption, depravity, loss, trauma and bad choices that bring a cast of characters together in the Arizona desert. One mother, one immoral conman, and a man hired to locate bones in the desert. How are these three people connected…the bones in the desert have the answers.

Jenn – Thriller

KIRKUS REVIEWS – MY PILOT BY SARAJANE GIERE

“An affecting recollection of a memorable marriage.”

MY PILOT

A STORY OF WAR, LOVE, AND ALS

BY SARAJANE GIERE
RELEASE DATE: NOV. 9, 2020

A woman recalls her life—never dull and sometimes terrifying—as an Air Force wife in this memoir.

When Giere married Bernie, the uncertainty of their lives presented itself as a source of adventure rather than anxiety: “We were so much in love that we never questioned what the future would bring.” But Bernie, an Air Force pilot, was eventually sent to Vietnam with the 557th Squadron, a separation that weighed heavily on the author, only 25 years old at the time. She was responsible for tending to their young daughter and preparing for the arrival of another child. Giere did her best to manage her fears—she played bridge, joined a Bible study group, prayed—but nevertheless remained scared her husband, like so many other pilots, would not return. The author movingly depicts her predicament, which became intensely real to her when she learned another Air Force wife lost her husband in Vietnam: “After that the vulnerability of a pilot’s life became a reality that helped define my role in this new war experience. My friends from the past, who carried on their civilian lives as if there were no Vietnam, seemed disconnected, foreign.” Giere poignantly chronicles her eventful marriage, including the years following Bernie’s deployment to Vietnam and his struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Still, her husband’s stretch of time overseas forms the dramatic backbone of the memoir. The author charmingly strikes an informal register, an anecdotal casualness that forges an even greater intimacy with readers in this admirably candid remembrance. And while of course she did not serve in Vietnam herself, she relates Bernie’s experiences, through conversations and letters, so vividly that readers receive a captivating peek into a soldier’s life there. This is an endearing reminiscence, a kind of love letter from the author to her husband, both sweet and wise. An affecting recollection of a memorable marriage.

Reviews for Marc Cullison’s Vietnam Books!

These titles are available on Amazon today!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

STRAP IN – WAR FROM A CHOPPER PILOT’S POINT OF VIEW – In 1971, I was a college kid trying to pick a major so I could graduate. Marc Cullison was first lieutenant flying helicopters over the dense and dangerous jungles of Vietnam. “The Other Vietnam” brings to the reader the smells, sounds and dangers of that life-changing experience. It’s the details that matter: the MPCs, the hooch girls, rats in bed, the missions and the dangers of war. This is a well-told story of coming of age in the worst possible place to do it.

MARC CULLISON’S FIRST-HAND ACCOUNT AS A HELICOPTER PILOT IN VIETNAM

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A GREAT RETROSPECTION OF RETURNING TO VIETNAM FORTY YEARS AFTER – I highly recommend Marc Cullison’s “Vietnam Again.” It was a great read. It’s the story of a group of Vietnam Veterans who return to Vietnam for a two-week rediscovery trip. Their expectations were mixed about returning to such a dark foreboding time in their lives. It proved to be much more than a trip to a place they once knew, Cullison’s recollections and conclusions are thoughtful, compelling, and an example of a group of men coming to terms with their time as soldiers in this tiny sliver of a country that had such a profound impression on their lives. As I said before, “Vietnam Again,” was a great read!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

EXCELLENT – It’s a very nice detective story that kept me in suspense until the case was resolved. It presents the characters very vividly and the plot unfolds in such a way that it does not let you stop reading the book. I recommend it to all lovers of this kind of novels.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

GREAT MUSIC STORY – The story of Bobby who has made some bad choices in life. I thought this was going to the run of the mill sex, drugs and rock-and-roll story but this story goes deeper. Don’t expect a high octane page turner here, but the pace is constant. This is more of a piece of literary fiction than genre fiction, but anyone can get something from this story. I read the book in two sessions (one on the beach with my eReader) and found it very enjoyable. The only criticism I have is that the author tends to tell rather than show. Some scenes are writing in a matter-of-fact way. Like so and so went to college, etc. The story is strong, so it isn’t that much of a problem. If you ignore those parts, it is a very good story.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

LOVED THIS BOOK! – Wow, what a great book! I’m picky when it comes to books like this, but it was excellent! The conversations were real, something I rarely see in the books I’ve read lately. They were believable and realistic. It made me feel something, like intense, another quality that is lacking in most the books I read. You need to put your paragraphs together with indentations. Very descriptive and interesting book, great job Jerry!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A BRILLIANT MEMOIR – The author’s experiences in the pointless Vietnam conflict are described in this memoir. Although much has been written pro & con about this war, Cullison’s memoir is a special contribution. It is about the experiences of the “every-day-Joe” in a war without meaning and purpose.

EXCITING, ENTERTAINING AND ENJOYABLE – The Swamps of Jersey is a classic crime novel. It is exciting and unpredictable as well as extremely well written, high class and catchy. I liked the plot and the author’s detailed descriptions of locations and characters. It helped me picture the scenes. I highly recommend it.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

CONTEMPORARY NOIR – I’m a big fan of noir and pulp stories, and Ron Shannon’s “Gabriel’s Wing” highlights a lot of what is good in that kind of fiction: a kind of dark mystery with engaging characters and a strong narrative voice. I enjoyed this a lot.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

LOVE THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT – Why? Because the character development in this book was amazing, I loved the main characters. not only that but the writing was amazing. i have never been to many of the places listed in the book but the way Ron was explaining it, painted a clear picture in my mind.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

THIS WAS TOP SHELF WWII ESPIONAGE FICTION – Well-written, ambitiously conceived, WWII fiction at its best. The characters and their interractions vie for attention with the unfolding plot. Honestly, my reading-dollar has rarely gotten such value. If you like historical fiction, this is worthy of your time and money and praise.

THE LAST HOLIDAY – When reading this book I thought of the movie the last holiday, however this storyline brings an even greater twist, the character takes the lemons and turns them into lemonade.

killer story – Frank Nagler has his hands full with a serial killer on the loose, departmental infighting and political intrigue. Throw in personal drama and the rookie detective’s plate is pretty full. Only dogged determination and a hunger for mystery solving keeps his head above water. “The Red Hand” is well written and easy to read. The mystery keeps the pages turning. Glad I started with Book 4. Now I can move on to Book 1.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

TIGHT PLOT, GREAT CHARACTERS, GREAT WRITING – Book three in a terrific series, the author, Michael Stephen Daigle, weaves a fast paced, convoluted, dark crime thriller. This novel starts with what looks like a simple mystery (a young girl is found in a grocery store Dumpster on a cold March night wearing just shorts and a tank top.) and winds up a complex decades old thriller. I enjoyed this book very much. The author certainly keeps you on your toes from the start. Highly recommended.

I Found My Heart in Prague – Narrated by Dane Petersen

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Very Good Romance – I don’t usually read romances, but this was good. It was a genuine tear-jerker with a satisfying ending. Also has some unique destinations. Very good, the perfect beach read.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The Last Holiday – When reading this book I thought of the movie the last holiday, however this storyline brings an even greater twist, the character takes the lemons and turns them into lemonade.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Loved it! – I’m a sucker for a good love story, but I tend to avoid the tear jerkers. You know from the description this one won’t have a happily ever after, but I’m so glad I took a chance on it. Loved the characters, loved the setting, and it’s such a sweet, heartfelt story. A very enjoyable read.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

GOOD READ – Faith lost is an interesting tale, though hard to peg down in order to describe. I enjoy tales that raise questions of the soul’s journey and its interconnection with the longing question about the meaning of life. I can recommend it as a good read.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

GREAT READ BUT… – It ended off on a cliff hanger., which is fine. Readers are left to imagine the overall outcome. However, some may not be too fond of this. Other than that, it was a great read!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

PERSONAL & INTRIGUING – I didn’t know much about the Vietnam war, other than what we read in school. This book gives a personal insight into what the author went through, and though, I’m sure each soldier’s experience was different, they were all practically “in the same boat”. What the author said from the very beginning was “This story is not the whole truth because truth can’t be told in a story. Only experience can. I have to convey my experiences in Vietnam the way I lived them. That’s why I’m telling you the story in my own way.” There are some critical reviews about this book about the author being “negative towards his experience in Vietnam”. Well, frankly, I think they’re stupid because most of them were not there, and obviously they can’t appreciate a veteran’s story about his experience. A little off-topic, but had to get that out. Thank you, Marc, for your service! Overall, would definitely recommend this book!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

ENGAGING – Very engaging mystery.
Highly recommended!
