GRITTY MYSTERY – 5 STARS!

Tillie Whistlethorn is a New Orleans beauty working for the FBI who gets caught up in a dangerous group of people. She’s aided by a private investigator who sounds more like Fabio, with his long hair and good looks. This page-turner keeps you guessing and by the end of the book, I wanted a cigarette and a glass of whiskey on the rocks like the characters. Set in the the late ’60s, the cross train travel, the vintage car descriptions, and the edgy details of the sex trade reveal every age has its own evils and heroes. I practically read this book in one sitting. It was highly entertaining.

A GREAT PARANORMAL STORY!! – 4 STARS!

This is an intriguing story that is great for all ages that keeps you engaged. Lots of action. Highly recommended!!!

RAW & HONEST – TRULY DIFFERENT LOOK AT VIETNAM – 5 STARS!

Being born in the mid sixties, I remember Vietnam, but was too young to really absorb all that was happening. I, of course, have since read much on it. This author gives a different look than most books. I compare it to Leander Stillwell’s A Common Soldier of Army Life in the Civil War. It’s not meant to be a historical record of battles, events, losses, and victories. Both books are meant to take the reader inside the life of one particular solider; to be with him during his commission. This book causes the reader to see what the author sees, experience what he experiences, and make you feel like you are right along side him. It’s not always pretty, and you may not agree with the author’s take or response to some circumstances. But, this book is Marc Cullison’s experience, not ours or anyone else’s. Mr. Cullison is brutally honest and completely open with the reader. That is why I am giving this book 5 stars. He has pulled the curtain back, and allowed us an uncensored view of his life and experience as an officer during the Vietnam War. Thank you for that!

VERY WELL WRITTEN – 5 STARS!

I really enjoyed this book, definitely a page turner! The writing is unique and has its own gripping style. Detective Frank Nagler is a great hero cop character, from a small city in New Jersey. The story is interesting and the suspense is very well done, it keeps you involved. There are curves, beyond just finding a murderer, that lead to more politics than mystery. I highly recommend this book to whoever enjoys a good crime novel with political side tones. A well written story and I look forward to the next book in the series. You won’t be disappointed!

MUST READ FOR WAR VETERANS – 5 STARS!

This is a true story of Marc Cullison, a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam war who goes back to face his demons 40 years later. It gives you a deep look inside the mind of a Vietnam war veteran. I recommend this to all veterans as well as anyone fascinated with the Vietnam war in general.

ENGAGING PROTAGONIST – 5 STARS!

The Red Hand’ presents a well-defined young detective protagonist working his first case and does so in fine style. The characters are believable and three-dimensional and the story and plot turns are expertly done by author Michael Stephen Daigle. Anyone who enjoys crime stories should love this novel.

INTERESTING – 4 STARS!

This story wasn’t exactly what I expected it to be, but it was interesting. Some of the characters were a bit one dimensional and it jumped around a lot, but the plot was interesting and it kept me hooked wanting to know what happened next.

THE FRANK NAGLER MYSTERIES BY MICHAEL STEPHEN DAIGLE

REALLY GOOD – 5 STARS!

Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2020

This book is so top notch. It’s like a really good Scotch. Very satisfying, feels old school, seems like reading it made me cooler, or at least feel like a cooler person. This is a perfectly well crafted, balanced, detective thriller.

WELL WRITTEN CRIME DRAMA – 5 STARS!

This was a well-written crime story. The protagonist detective character was well crafted and the plot flowed in a manner that made this a real page-turner. Definitely recommend.

CONTENT IS DARK AND GLOOMY, BUT AS USUAL, AUTHOR DELIVERS A POWERFUL, WELL-CRAFTED STORY – 5 STARS!

The author avoids sensationalism here. As dark as the plot gets, what stands out, as usual, are the characters and dialogue. There is never a lack of scandal in Ironton, New Jersey, a city whose glory days are in the past, but where a few good people hope to make real and lasting improvements.
Police detective Frank Nagle is one of them. One of the best things about this series is that readers can start anywhere and not feel like they are missing out on so much. The author is very adept at giving enough of the backstory to whet readers; interest in going back to earlier novels.
Characters who have appeared in earlier novels of the series reveal some surprising things about themselves in this book. The author makes it all fit together in a fast-paced riveting story.

MARC CULLISON

FIVE STARS – 5 STARS!

A very well written and interesting memoir. I also enjoyed reading about his return to the states and his thoughts about Vietnam.

RON SHANNON

A SOLID BOOK – 5 STARS

Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2020‘The Hedgerows of June‘ is a great book. Ron Shannon Is a talented author; every aspect of the book is high quality. “Hedgerows” is a well-written page-turner with a narrative that kept my attention until the end.

The main and supporting characters are well-developed. It was clear to me that the setting was well-researched.

 I ENJOYED THIS! – 4 STARS!

At first I wasn’t sure I would be able to stay interested in a fiction book but this one kept my attention from the first page. Being from New Jersey I enjoyed the parts of the book that were set there. Overall it was a worthwhile read and interesting story!

COLLEEN MICHAELS

New 5-star review for ‘The Weight of Living’

Another wonderful 5 star review for The Weight of Living!!

Michael Stephen Daigle

New 5-star Goodreads review of “The Weight of Living:” “What a great read! A complex plot in a gloomy setting with characters honed to perfection. Detective Frank Nagler is one of those characters that could be real; intuitive, dedicated, but with baggage and a soft spot. My kind of guy. I’m not usually drawn into a story like I was this one. I finished the book in record time.” Thanks, Marc Cullison.

Why writing a first draft is like performing stand-up with hecklers

This was so much fun to read!

Michael Stephen Daigle

“She…”

Who’s that?

What?

Who’s she?

The woman in the story. I don’t know. I haven’t named her yet.

How are we supposed to like her if she hasn’t got a name?

How do you know you’re supposed to like her? Maybe she’s a thief.

Is she going to be a thief?

Possibly. Maybe I want to save that detail as a surprise to the reader.

Readers don’t like surprises.

Um, “Marylyn…”

That’s a weird spelling.

“Alright. “Marilyn…”

No. Too Marilyn Monroe-ish.

What?

You’ll need a male character who looks like Clark Gable.

I’m not writing a 1950s black-and-white movie.

Nice hyphens.

Look, I’ll call her George or Bill. It disguises her sexuality.

Oh, how au currant.

Could I just write something?!

Sure. Go head. We’ll wait.

Alright. “She banged her head…”

Name!

“George banged her head on the locked front door glass when she realized she had left her…

Nagler book four done: ‘The Red Hand’

Michael Stephen Daigle

It’s done. The fourth Frank Nagler Mystery, called “The Red Hand.”

It’s done as much as it can be before going through an editing process and revisions, and all the stuff that follows the suspected completion of a book.

Before I describe the book, I would like to note the real life loss of one of the popular settings in the stories, Barry’s, a restaurant in Dover, N.J.

The real Barry’s was one of numerous businesses destroyed in a terrible fire this week. The fire, apparently fueled  by natural gas, destroyed a block of businesses and apartments in Dover’s historic downtown.

It’s a terrible loss, homes, jobs and futures. Agencies are working hard to help those who suffered these losses.

Barry’s was the kind of place that every downtown needs, fast, loud, filled with stories. As a newspaper reporter working in Dover for eight years, it was a place for…
